Is the study of numbers in the Bible or numerology a sin? No. See what the Bible says...

Some believe or were taught the study of numbers is sinful...I don't think so..

Just a quick post to say that I cannot find any hint of Bible scripture speaking against the study of numbers in the Bible or in any other field of research. Below I have quoted the scriptures commonly quoted by those attempting to justify this incorrect belief. ... Numbers were created by our God of order and by being part of our Bible, we are commanded to thoroughly study every part of it.
The assertions made about a supernatural structure in the bible are very difficult to accept for a number of reasons. First, we have been conditioned to be very skeptical and even overly fearful of anything that has to do with symbolism of numbers.  This theory has largely come from the occult or numbers are used to justify strange and even evil thinking. Christians seem to fear the study of numbers so much they seem to run from the subject whenever it is mentioned as if some evil teaching will reach out and grab them. Numbers are an important part of the world we live in and God's use of his numbers in His Holy Word are an important and valid area of study.
NOTE: Some refer to the term NUMEROLOGY when warning about numbers study. I've seen many different definitions of this term and some even mention it being related to a study of occult numbers -- but there is no evidence this term has anything to do with evil or things of evil. Just because it is sometimes used in this context does not make it a term we should be afraid of.
God is a god of order and it is no surprise his creation is numerically perfect. For those who think such things possible, might Satan have been working for hundreds of years to find ways to discredit any study of numbers as evil? Maybe all the strange occult writings about numbers was written for this reason?

I am unable to find any Bible verses that speak against the study of numbers. When I looked for biblical arguments against the study of numbers, I found the following scriptures quoted and decided to pass them along for others to examine. The most quoted scriptures against number study is in Deuteronomy chapter 18 verses 9-12:
Deu 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. v10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. v11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. v12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
There is no reason to apply any of these scriptures to the discipline of study of God's numbers.  Following are other verses quoted when they warn against the study of numbers.

Deu 4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Isa 47:13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

Matt 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

Matt 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: v40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

Act 19:19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

2The 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. v11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I believe numbers are a part of God's Holy word, and like all its parts, they can be abused and studied and taught with evil intent in mind. As long as numbers are studied to be understood within the context of God's Word, and the resultant knowledge is totally consistent with the Bible, I believe the study is good and a worthwhile endeavor.
