Matt 24:42 "Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which "day" your Lord is coming."
...the24,000th Bible verse. I’ve written several times about how Matthew 24:42 is a very special verse in the Bible where six different alignments of #24 happen on a single verse. This alone is tremendous evidence for a God inspired Bible - but this post is not focused on this single verse. I just noticed today it is worth sharing that the contents of this 24th chapter of Matthew goes much farther in drawing a supernatural comparison of the chapter contents to the number 24. Throughout the Bible’s chapter there is great evidence that the chapter text is directly related to the chapter number. It seems God’s perfection has produced the text in a humanly understandable text structure that, once you comprehend some of his patterns, you observe they reveal the Bible’s DNA like numerical perfection.
This one chapter example in this post does not prove the point I’m writing about, but it should make you wonder if God really does write the Bible’s text in a great intersecting pattern. In this 24th chapter of Matthew, it is without too much question about the “Day of the LORD” and we all know a day has 24 hours.This chapter has #24 and time stamped all over it -- The symbolism for #24 is found over and over again related to the time of the end, and all the verses are generally associated with days and time in general. It appears God relates our 24 hours in a day with a time of the end…the Hour when the Messiah returns to earth. The 24,000th verse 42 is the key chapter verse and specifically warns us about this day. It is an incredible chapter with unbelievable numbering/text associations…and what I’ve written about here surely does not begin to explain all the patterns that really are here.
Observing Time, Hours and Days references in the text…
I’ve included parts of 30 of the 51 verses in this 24th chapter and highlighted how God over and over again points out how this chapter is about the Day and Hour of his return. As mentioned above, #24 is about time and the verses of this chapter constantly refer to time in one form or another. In the text of the verses noted below, note all the references to time. You will see this same type of textual pattern in other chapters – God writes the text in a way that directly relates chapter number symbolism to themes found in the text. Once you understand this number/theme relationship, you can always use it to get a better understanding of any chapter’s contents. Following are ways that the text in this chapter seem to point out its supernatural numbering as well as the number/text theme.
- This is the 24th chapter of Matthew and of the New Testament.
- It contains the 24,000th Bible verse which is also the key verse of the chapter
- The chapter constantly refers to time, and especially focuses on the ““Day” of the LORD”
- A day has 24 hours
- Verses 1-39 seem to be the first subsection of the chapter that explains the day of the Lord and ends with an explanation that the people (Israel?) did not understand this day. It is just like the days of Noah – “Matt 24:39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (note, I’m not assuming the chapter only has one theme. I consider this a layer of meaning of this chapter’s contents)
- I am very surprised (shocked) that I just noticed in the last few minutes – This end of this first subsection of this chapter (Verses 1-39) tell the disciples about the future day of the Lord’s retrn and warn them that it will be a day that will be likewhen the flood came. Believers are saved (the Ark – in a safe place) and the unbelievers are carried away. I cannot believe it is coincidence that this specific verse is #39 and #39 is a number that is symbolic/related to Israel and the Jews. Other parts of my website explain this symbolism. To give you an idea of this symbolism, note there are 39 books in the OT and it is not coincidence that Matthew chapter one (that tells of the coming of Jesus and explains why he is the promised Messiah) is the 930th chapter of the Bible (93/39 are directly related numbers. I imagine that #39 relates to Israel/Jews have not quite completed the 40 years of wilderness wandering yet. These first 39 verses of the chapter seem to point out the text relate to Israel.
- The 40 and 41st verses seem a second subsection of this chapter that speaks of a “Catching Up” which is a rapture like set of verses. In my opinion, it is no coincidence that these are the 23,998th and 23,999th Bible verses – immediately before the 24,000th verse. These cross Bible verse numbers are related to “999” which is symbolic of the last things before the end – think of #1000 as a #10 related number and is about the ends of things – Literally – “the end” or “the last” things in a list. These verses seem to point out that immediately before the “Day of the LORD”(the Lord’s return), some will be taken off the earth to a safe place and some will be left. Numeric patterns also show that #999 is related to 3 nines (39-Israel) – I’m not sure I can explain this number/text relationship, but I believe there is some intended meaning.
- What might be seen as a single verse subsection of the chapter -- the 24,000th verse is the key chapter verse. “Be on the alert for this day”. A day directly related to #24, and #24,000. This subsection/verse states this is a critically important day related to salvation—watch for it.
- The last subsection of this chapter consists of verses 43 to 51. These correspond to the Bible’s 24,001st to 24,009th verses. This section of nine verses tells us we must be prepared and working while we await his return. -- Matt 24:46 "Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes”. The symbolic meaning of numbers 1-9 are related to what I call God’s “Redemption Pattern”. It is the nine steps or phases in learning about God and coming to serve him. Again, #10 which is the next number, is about the very end. It seems appropriate that there are nine verses at the end of this chapter that speak of being busy at work when the Lord does return.
I could go on writing about this chapter, but that’s enough for now. Consider the following 30 of the 51 verses of Matthew chapter 24 and how they consistently remind us of TIME and specifically, the Hour and Day of the Lord’s return. The time is coming! Following this list of verses are some additional examples that help show how G-d relates #24 to this day of his return.

24:1 …when His disciples came … (a reference to a time when they came to him)
24:3 … "Tell us, “”when will these things happen””…“”what is the sign of Your coming”” and the end of the age?"
24:6 "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars… but”” it is not yet the end””
24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, …there will be famines and earthquakes.
24:8 "But all “”these things are the beginning”” of birth pangs. (beginning is a time related word)
24:10 …””At that time”” many will fall away…
24:13 …the one who endures to the end…
24:14 …gospel… preached in the whole world…””then the end will come””. (verse #14 relates to 14 which is a Passover number – Jesus comes)
24:15 …when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION…
24:19 …woe to those… in those “”days!””
24:20 "But pray that your flight will not be in the winter…
24:21 ..then there will be…tribulation…never since the beginning of the world…
24:22 "Unless those “”days”” had been cut short…those”” days”” will be cut short.

24:29 …immediately after the tribulation of those “”days”” … (#29 is a 911 related number… 911 and 119 relate to 29. A number symbolic of last things. I find it often related to Rapture like events)
24:30 …then the sign of the Son of Man will appear…
24:32 …learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near;
24:33 …when you see all these things, recognize that He is near…
24:34 …this generation will not pass away until all these things take place
24:36 …of that “”day and hour”” no one knows,…
24:37 …just like the “”days”” of Noah.
24:38 …as in those “”days”” before the flood …until the”” day”” that Noah entered the ark,

The 23,998th and 23,999th verses seem a subsection about the faithful being caught up…
A “CATCHING UP”…The taking up of God’s people appears immediately before “The Day of the LORD”...the 23,998th and 23,999th verse. #998 and #999 are numbers symbolic of things that happen just before the end of some event or time or list…“last things”……

Evidence for the Bible’s #24 and how it relates to “The Day of the LORD”…
I believe one day people will come to understand that God has somehow supernaturally numbered the Bible; every book; every chapter; every verse. Chapter and verse numbers have direct correspondence to contents of the verse text. Not only is this text/number relationship evidence for a God Inspired Bible, but the perfect pattern of number symbolism is a wonderful guide to help us better interpret scripture. I don’t want to try and explain all the evidences for #24 and the “Day of the LORD” but suffice it to say that this symbolism is found overwhelmingly throughout the Bible. No single evidence will convince you this is a God intended pattern, but a couple of more examples might make you wonder. Following are evidences of the #24 relationship to Days/Time and the Day of the Lord:
The Bible’s exact 24,000th verse and key message of this chapter is in verse 24:”42”. There are 6 different associations of this verse to number 24. One mathematician calculated the odds of this happening by coincidence as one in 12 billion! It is: 1) in a chapter about The Day of the Lord; 2) a day has 24 hours; 3) is a verse about this specific day; 4) The chapter number is 24; 5) The verse number is 42 which is 24 in reverse and Greek/Hebrew Gematria count these as the same number; 6) Unbelievably, this is the exact 24,000th verse of the King James and other like numbered Bibles (NIV, NASB, NKJC, ESV…)

In this following 12:40 verse of Luke (note the relationship of #12:40 to #24. Patterns throughout the Bible’s numbering demonstrate this chapter number/verse number relationship (one of many, many number patterns to be observed). It cannot be coincidence this verse that is identical to the messages of Matthew chapter #24 is also numbered with #24 in chapter and verse…
Luke “12:40” "You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect."
The Bible’s 24240th (24 and 24 in cross Bible verse numbering) verse is also the 24th verse of Mark Chapter 1 and is numerically marked strongly 24. It is very interesting that the text points to a “day” when Jesus “has come” and evil forces see him as the Holy One of God and ask if he has come to destroy them. Sounds very much like a parallel to the events of the “Day of the LORD” –
Mark 1:24 saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!"
One of the most well known quoted verses about the “Day” the Lord made…did you ever notice it was verse #24? I’m not sure I want to try to explain what this means. Something everyone can ponder.
Psa 118:(24) This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
The Bible’s 21444th verse (strongly related to 24) – Ezekiel 38 is clearly a Day of the Lord chapter. It is very interesting the cross Bible verse numbering of 21444 (24) seem to relate directly to the text that refers to “that DAY”…
Eze 38:18 "It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel," declares the Lord GOD, "that My fury will mount up in My anger.
Conclusion:
Be watching number 24s in your Bible study and check out other chapter #24s to see how they in one way or another relate to #24 type symbolism. It takes a lot of examples for anyone to be convinced of this supernatural numbering, but once it is observed, it makes the study of God’s Word a totally new adventure…not to mention that it puts us in awe of our mighty God.
