Is the study of numbers in the Bible or numerology a sin? No. See what the Bible says...

Some believe or were taught the study of numbers is sinful...I don't think so..

Just a quick post to say that I cannot find any hint of Bible scripture speaking against the study of numbers in the Bible or in any other field of research. Below I have quoted the scriptures commonly quoted by those attempting to justify this incorrect belief. ... Numbers were created by our God of order and by being part of our Bible, we are commanded to thoroughly study every part of it.
The assertions made about a supernatural structure in the bible are very difficult to accept for a number of reasons. First, we have been conditioned to be very skeptical and even overly fearful of anything that has to do with symbolism of numbers.  This theory has largely come from the occult or numbers are used to justify strange and even evil thinking. Christians seem to fear the study of numbers so much they seem to run from the subject whenever it is mentioned as if some evil teaching will reach out and grab them. Numbers are an important part of the world we live in and God's use of his numbers in His Holy Word are an important and valid area of study. 
NOTE: Some refer to the term NUMEROLOGY when warning about numbers study. I've seen many different definitions of this term and some even mention it being related to a study of occult numbers -- but there is no evidence this term has anything to do with evil or things of evil. Just because it is sometimes used in this context does not make it a term we should be afraid of. 
God is a god of order and it is no surprise his creation is numerically perfect. For those who think such things possible, might Satan have been working for hundreds of years to find ways to discredit any study of numbers as evil? Maybe all the strange occult writings about numbers was written for this reason?

I am unable to find any Bible verses that speak against the study of numbers. When I looked for biblical arguments against the study of numbers, I found the following scriptures quoted and decided to pass them along for others to examine. The most quoted scriptures against number study is in Deuteronomy chapter 18 verses 9-12:
Deu 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. v10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. v11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. v12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
There is no reason to apply any of these scriptures to the discipline of study of God's numbers.  Following are other verses quoted when they warn against the study of numbers.

Deu 4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
 

Isa 47:13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. 

Matt 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

Matt 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: v40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
 

Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
 

Act 19:19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
 

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I believe numbers are a part of God's Holy word, and like all its parts, they can be abused and studied and taught with evil intent in mind. As long as numbers are studied to be understood within the context of God's Word, and the resultant knowledge is totally consistent with the Bible, I believe the study is good and a worthwhile endeavor.

The Mystery and Wonder of God's Chapter and Verse Numbering (5:30 verses)

Throughout this blog I write about the incredible discoveries you can make by paying attention to the Bible's Book, Chapter and Verse numbering. They all have meaning....
Notice how Bible verses with the same chapter and verse contain common themes...Even across the Old and New Testaments...
You can read about this in many other posts. Today I just wanted to provide some amazing verse examples to demonstrate the absolute perfection in the Bible's Numbering.

There are just 13 verses in the Bible with chapter and verse reference of 5:30. I've listed them below and highlighted some of their text demonstraing a common theme running throughout them. Number thirty has a symbolic meaning related to holiness, righteousness and purity. Number five is related to covenents, teachings, commands by God and consequences for following them, or not following them (see 5th Bible book of Deuteronomy). Put the numbers together and you should find verse text related somehow to these two themes. Be aware, many different numbers are associated with each Bible verse so don't expect the verse text to match the theme fully, but rather to have some of it's contents that relates to the theme.

See if the verses below reveal to you this theme of righteousness and consequences related to following or not following God's instructions:


Num 5:30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
Deu 5:30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

Judg 5:30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colors, a prey of divers colors of needlework, of divers colors of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?

Isa 5:30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

Jer 5:30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

Matt 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Luke 5:30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Act 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

 If you see this pattern across verses of both the Old and New Testaments, what does it tell you?
  • There is some divine inspiration to numbering
  • The same pattern to numbering is used for both testaments so they likely have the same author.
  • How does the text happen to line up this way. The books were written thousands of years apart? Suggests the numbers were actually assigned by God when he created the text.
  • If this pattern applies here, it should apply to all like referenced verses
  • Numbers have meaning and line up with the text. Thus, they can be used to help interpret verse text.
  • Regarding interpretation, What does the theme found in the 5:30 verses suggest about the text in Ephesians 5:30. It is something to think about.
Be amazed and in awe of our God and His Holy Word! It is incredible beyond our comprehension. Trust it is a creation of God and not of men.

Ratio and The Fractal Nature of Reality
The included video from another YouTube source tells about
the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden ratio found throughout our universe.  Some believe the Fibonacci sequence might be a Fingerprint of our creator, God. That is, God left this pattern for us to
discover and intuitively know that the same being that created the universe of our stars
in this pattern, also stamped our earth, nature, and even our bodies with the
same pattern. If so, we are all apparently made by the same intelligent creator. The logic goes
that it could not be coincidence this amazing mathematical pattern just happened
to occur in the exact same way in everything we experience.

I’m not a mathematician, but this logic makes sense to me, and
since I study the Scriptures and believe the Bible is authored directly by God
himself, it would also make sense the Fibonacci sequence must be stamped in God’s
Word as his seal of perfection. I suspect this pattern is written into God’s Word
in an infinite number of ways, so I tried just one possibility as an experiment
to see of the numbers line up with the contents of the Bible's verse text. In the table below I've listed verses (1--31,102) of the Bible that match the Fibonacci sequence. The list below
shows verses for Fibonacci numbers up to that point.

1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597, 2584,
4181, 6765, 10946, 17711, 28657

The list shows each of the Fibonacci verses in the Bible and includes as the first column a number 1--22 sequence number of each matching verse. Since all Bible numbers have a progressive symbolic meaning associated with them, in the second column I’ve included a word or two about each number as a help to linking the Fibonacci number to the “Redemption Pattern” number definition as documented in my book.

What I Hoped to find?

As explained in my book, every number in the Bible has a
symbolic meaning and every book, chapter, verse number (including Bible and Book verse numbers) has symbolic meaning that lines up with some aspect of meaning in the text of the Bible. I call this lining up of the text with Bible numbering the Redemption Pattern and Numeric Map of the Bible. This numbering mathematically numerically validates the Bible has been written and preserved just as God intended it. Additionally, every list in the Bible such as; the 10 Commandments; the 10 parts of the Lord’s prayer; or the 10 I am statements of Jesus all line up with their number in their respective list matches up the verse text to the symbolism of the number. I expected to find the first twenty-two Fibonacci numbers symbolism would line up with text that matched the symbolism with the numbers 1 to 22. This evidence would show the Fibonacci pattern design was implemented in the Bible in the exact same way as is found in our creation. Thus, the author of the Bible is the same author of the design of our universe.

What I Concluded?

SUCCESS! I believe the results in the table below shows the Fibonacci
number matched Bible verses do have verse text that lines up with symbolic
meanings of the numbers 1-22.

The purpose of this Blog Post was to pass along my thoughts
about how the Fibonacci numbers are likely found in the Bible. For those that
might be interested, they can investigate and research these conclusions
themselves to see if the evidence leads to the same results. I also hope
that others might have additional thoughts to pass along about the numbers and
text and how they might match up with the Fibonacci numbers in ways more
compelling than what I’ve seen so far. I am very much interested in any
