Rev 20:1 - The angel holding the key to the abyss is none other than Jesus himself

The Bible’s DNA like number references help us in interpreting the text. Revelation 20:1 mentions an angel that holds the key to the abyss. Although some imagine this to be Jesus, others are not sure – the angel is unnamed. How can we be more sure if this is Jesus or not? The repeating theme running through the Bible’s 20:1 verses (24 of them) most often refers to the Lord Jesus himself. This would seem to point to him being the angel of Revelation 20:1.

Rev 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

Following are some examples of the 20:1 referenced verses that point to Jesus. As I have mentioned in other blog posts, the apparent common themes running through like referenced verses are so often compelling, that the more we examine them, the more we can be confident they help translate each other. That is, by identifying the similar pattern, we can look for the pattern to give us clues to what other like referenced verse text refers to.

Including Revelation 20:1, following are 12 pretty obvious 20:1 examples that point to Jesus being the one spoken of – other verses also point to Jesus, types of Jesus, or sometimes types of leaders that are opposite (evil) examples of Jesus types.  Many other patterns associated with the Bible’s number 20 seem symbolic of anticipation of the coming messiah to save - so this common pattern of 20:1 verses with Jesus seems also consistent with that same theme.

As always, confirm this pattern for yourself, because I’m simply telling about what the scriptures appear to be saying – I’m not claiming what I say is right because I know I am often mistaken in my perception of what patterns say. I am basically convinced the repeating pattern exists, so hopefully am pointing readers to observe the patterns and discern their meanings for themselves .

Lev 20:1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
Deu 20:1 …do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.
Josh 20:1 Then the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,
Judg 20:1 Then all the sons of Israel…assembled as one man to the LORD
2Kin 20:1 …"Thus says the LORD, 'Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.' "
Psa 20:1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!
Isa 20:1 In the year that the commander came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him and he fought against Ashdod and captured it,
Eze 20:1 Now in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month, certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD,
Matt 20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
Luke 20:1 On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him,
John 20:1 …Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb…and saw the stone (Jesus, the Rock) already taken away from the tomb.

  1. This is absolutely crazy! The bible for one is not to be take literally according to you Christians, but some extremists like you somehow are able to connect the bible to serious things like 911. Yes I am an Atheist, and you can visit my blog The Absence of God at http://jesusmustbestopped.blogspot.com/2011/08/why-humans-believe-in-to-god.html
After reading please post a comment and hopefully we can set up a debate over religion on blog spot. If you don't answer this, naturally, I will not be surprised as most religious extremists are scared to be questioned about their religion. I hope you are an exception...
